Cape Town is one of the most famous areas in South Africa and is known to be very western influenced. When it comes to the Alzheimer’s and Dementia in the the area, they are very progressive but, they do not have a lot of support from the local government and also lack funding and resources. I was lucky enough to work with a fantastic woman named Jill Robinson who works as a volunteer helping out at facilities as well as visiting with patients in the Western Cape (a huge area). She works tirelessly to give lectures at facilities, setting up support groups, and helping individuals to find nursing homes for their loved ones. Every facility I visited or patients I met Jill has helped in some way. While I was in Cape Town, I was lucky enough to photograph in some incredible facilities as well as in the homes of families who care for their own loved ones. Though I was not able to photograph in the townships this time, I have been lucky enough to see how progressive this community is when it comes to care.
